Ruffino Chianti Classico Riserva Ducale originates from Italy, specifically from the Tuscany region and the Chianti Classico subregion. Founded in 1877 in Pontassieve, Ruffino became a pioneer in exporting Tuscan wines and was appointed the official supplier to the Italian royal family in 1890. The 'Riserva Ducale' name, first released in 1927, honors the Duke of Aosta, who was so impressed by the wines that he granted the estate his royal patronage. The winery's philosophy combines historical knowledge with technical precision, focusing on sustainability through biodiversity and responsible vineyard management.
Wine Description
This red wine presents a deep ruby red colour with garnet reflections and a medium-to-full body. The sensory profile is elegant and aromatic, featuring a bouquet of ripe cherries, plums, and wild berries, complemented by floral notes of violet and red roses. On the palate, it is balanced and refined, delivering flavours of red berries, savory spices, and tobacco, underpinned by a toasty character with hints of cardamom and cloves. The finish is long and persistent, characterized by fresh acidity, fine-grained tannins, and a pleasant mineral aftertaste with notes of rosemary.
Varietal Composition: Predominantly Sangiovese, often blended with small proportions of Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon.
Stylistic Notes: The wine is aged in oak barrels to develop its classic structure and tightly woven balance between fruit and spice.
ABV: Typically 13.5%.
Organic Status: While Ruffino prioritizes sustainability and biodiversity, this specific wine is generally not certified organic.
