The Fohn Munich Helles Lager is brewed by Wild Winds Brewery, a woman owned craft brewery founded by Certified Cicerone Jen Rogers. Originally planned for Pincher Creek, Alberta, the brewery currently operates and crafts its beers in Calgary. The beer's name is inspired by the Foehn winds—warm, dry gusts that descend mountain slopes—which are famously known as 'Chinooks' in Southwest Alberta.
Beer Description
This German style Helles lager presents as an unfiltered brew with a characteristic haze and a medium to full body. The sensory profile features a clean and smooth aroma with subtle spicy, floral, and earthy hop notes. On the palate, it delivers a mildly grainy-sweet malty flavour supported by a malt bill of 100% Alberta malt from Canada Malting and Red Shed Malting. The finish is soft with a low bitterness, resulting from the use of German yeast and late additions of German Perle or Hersbrucker hops. This sessionable lager has an ABV of 5% and a bitterness of 18 IBU.
