Tornatore Pietrarizzo Etna Rosso 2021 is a vibrant, elegant, and highly expressive single-vineyard Italian red wine that beautifully captures the raw volcanic terroir of Sicily's Mount Etna. Crafted entirely from indigenous Nerello Mascalese grapes grown at 650 to 700 meters in elevation on the ashy, basaltic soils of the northern slopes, it pours a bright ruby red hue. The nose is incredibly aromatic and sophisticated, unfolding with clear notes of ripe strawberry, cranberry, and crushed dried flowers, seamlessly integrated with nuances of cinnamon, blood orange, fresh Mediterranean herbs, and a distinctive mineral tension. On the palate, it is medium-bodied, juicy, and energetically focused. Delivering a crisp core of red berries, it is perfectly balanced by a snappy, mouthwatering acidity and well-defined, chalky tannins. Matured in large French oak barrels and concrete vats, it culminates in a long, beautifully structured, and stony mineral finish that purely reflects its high-altitude origins.
Food Pairing: Pairs perfectly with rich meat dishes, traditional eggplant caponata, savory pasta with tomato-based sauces, chicken parmigiana, and prosciutto-and-arugula pizza.
93 Points - James Suckling
Vibrant and spicy with red cherries, strawberries, cinnamon and blood oranges. Smooth and medium-bodied with crisp acidity and ripe, velvety tannins. Tense, chewy finish.
91 Points - Robert Parker's Wine Advocate
This wine draws its fruit from a site at 650 meters in elevation on the ashy slopes of Mount Etna. The Tornatore 2021 Etna Rosso Pietrarizzo offers good tension and a mid-weight texture with bright aromas of dried cherry, cassis and crushed flower. It offers an immediate and accessible taste of the mineral-driven wines of this mighty Sicilian volcano.
