Terrasoul Superfoods Organic Coconut Sugar is an unrefined, low-glycemic alternative to white sugar made from dried coconut palm sap, offered here in a 2 lb (32 oz) pouch for everyday baking and beverages.
Harvested from the sap of coconut palm blossoms and gently dehydrated, this coconut sugar preserves natural minerals and a subtle caramel flavor. Certified USDA Organic and labeled gluten-free, kosher, non-GMO, and vegan-friendly, it performs as a simple 1:1 substitute for granulated white sugar in most recipes. The texture and taste lend themselves to cookies, sauces, coffee, and smoothies while providing a less-processed sweetening option.
How does Terrasoul coconut sugar behave in baking compared to white sugar?
Terrasoul coconut sugar browns and caramelizes similarly to brown sugar due to its native molasses content, which can deepen baked goods' color and flavor. It generally replaces white sugar at a 1:1 ratio, though you may notice slightly moister or denser results in some recipes.
- Use 1 cup coconut sugar for 1 cup white sugar in most recipes.
- Expect a richer, caramel-like taste and darker crumb.
- May slightly increase moisture—reduce liquid by a tablespoon if needed.
- Works well in cookies, muffins, quick breads, and glazes.
Can I use this coconut sugar in my morning coffee or tea without changing flavor too much?
Yes—Terrasoul coconut sugar adds a mellow, toffee-like sweetness that complements coffee and tea without the bright, sharp sweetness of refined sugar. It dissolves well in hot drinks and enhances flavor without overpowering delicate notes.
- Dissolves easily in hot coffee, tea, and lattes.
- Adds a subtle caramel tone rather than pure sweetness.
- Works well with plant milks and spiced beverages.
- Use the same scoop amount as you would with regular sugar.
What makes this coconut sugar a lower-glycemic choice?
Because it is minimally processed and retains some naturally occurring compounds from the palm sap, coconut sugar has a lower glycemic response than refined white sugar for many people. While not suitable as a medical treatment, it is marketed as a less-processed sweetener option that may produce a gentler blood sugar rise.
- Made from evaporated coconut palm sap with minimal refining.
- Contains trace minerals naturally found in the sap.
- Often described as having a lower glycemic index than white sugar.
- Still a caloric sweetener; use in moderation.
How should I store the coconut sugar to keep it fresh and free-flowing?
Keep the resealable pouch in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight to preserve texture and flavor. If the sugar hardens over time, simple methods restore its natural softness.
- Store in a pantry or cupboard at room temperature.
- Seal the pouch between uses to avoid moisture exposure.
- To soften hardened sugar, place a slice of apple or a damp paper towel in the sealed container for a few hours.
- Alternatively, gently break clumps with a fork before measuring.
