Tenuta Mazzolino 'Noir' Pinot Nero originates from Italy, within the Oltrepò Pavese region of Lombardy. The family owned estate is built on a philosophy of respect for the land, focusing on organic cultivation and minimal intervention to allow the terroir to express itself. Historically, the winery emphasizes "not adding but elevating," striving to safeguard the purest expressions of the grape under the guidance of oenologists like Giovanni Angeli. The vineyard's clay-loam soil with veins of sandstone and a gypsum substrate provides a unique foundation for their high-density, low-yield vines.
Wine Description
This 100% Pinot Nero presents an intense and clear ruby red colour, often featuring elegant garnet reflections. The sensory profile is broad and complex, offering a refined bouquet of mature forest fruits like raspberry and strawberry, alongside nuanced notes of pomegranate, tree bark, and white pepper. On the medium to full bodied palate, the wine is silky and well structured, delivering flavours of dark cherry and balsamic accents balanced by noble tannins and a fresh acidity. The finish is harmonious and persistent, revealing lingering returns of spices and aromatic woods.
ABV: Typically 13.5%.
Ageing: The wine is aged for 12 months in French oak barrels (Borgognotte pièces) followed by additional refining in the bottle.
Organic Status: The winery focuses on organic cultivation and sustainable production methods.
