Southern Comfort was born in New Orleans in 1874. Bartender M.W. Heron created it by blending whiskey with fruit and spice. Today the Sazerac Company owns the brand, and whiskey is back at its base. This 80 proof bottle is the bolder version, at 40% ABV.
Your first sniff brings sweet fruit, with peach and a little citrus. On the palate the whiskey is easy to notice. Peach sweetness and subtle spice sit on top of it. The finish is smooth and gently sweet, with a light warmth from the higher proof.
You can sip it neat or over ice when you want something mellow. It also shines in mixed drinks. Try the classic Southern Comfort and cola, or use it in a whiskey sour. For more ideas, look through our creative cocktails.
It sits with our flavorful liqueur picks, but it has more whiskey backbone than most. That makes it a fun middle ground between a liqueur and a flavored whiskey.
Serve it with citrus mixers or next to a sweet treat like peach cobbler. It is a good fit for you if you want a fruity, easygoing pour with real Southern history behind it.
