Soter Mineral Springs Ranch Pinot Noir is the flagship estate wine from Soter Vineyards, originating from the United States in the Yamhill-Carlton subregion of Oregon's Willamette Valley. The wine is sourced exclusively from Mineral Springs Ranch, a 240-acre biodynamic farm and vineyard situated along a ridge-line with ancient marine sedimentary soils. Founded in 1997 by Tony and Michelle Soter, the winery operates with a philosophy of minimal intervention and environmental stewardship, having achieved Demeter biodynamic certification for the entire estate.
Wine Description
The 2021 vintage of this Pinot Noir is darkly coloured and concentrated, while the 2022 vintage is noted for its incredible tension and linearity. The aromatic profile is complex, typically opening with red cherry, wild strawberry, and cranberry, layered with rose petal, forest floor, and subtle notes of spice or cedar. On the palate, the wine is precise and structured, offering flavours of raspberry, marionberry, and black tea, often accompanied by a distinct mineral-driven core and a 'kiss' of sea salt. The body is elegant and medium-weighted, featuring fine-grained, grippy tannins and vibrant acidity that provides energy through a long, refined finish. This 100% Pinot Noir is typically aged for 12 months in French oak barrels (approximately 40% to 45% new) and has an alcohol content ranging from 13.6% to 13.8% ABV. The wine is produced from 100% biodynamically farmed estate fruit.
Food Pairing
This elegant and age-worthy Pinot Noir is a fine match for classic pairings such as roasted duck, venison, or herb-crusted lamb chops. Its earthy undertones also complement mushroom-based dishes like wild mushroom risotto or a savory mushroom butter. For local flair, it is frequently paired with Pacific Northwest salmon, particularly when grilled or served with green garlic potatoes.
