Pendleton 1910 is a rare thing: a Canadian whisky made from 100% rye. It rests in oak barrels for at least 12 years before bottling at 80 proof. Hood River Distillers in Oregon brings it to you. The name honors 1910, the year of the very first Pendleton Round-Up rodeo.
Nose your glass and you pick up nutmeg and cloves. A hint of dried pineapple sits behind them. The aroma feels full and well rounded.
The palate is soft and fruity for a rye. Gentle tropical notes mix with apple and dried cherry. Nutty toffee runs underneath. You also get tobacco, charred oak and butterscotch, with a touch of maple. The finish is medium dry, and tart cherry stays with you.
This bottle has a strong record with judges. In 2024 it took Gold at the ASCOT Awards and the International Spirits Challenge. The Beverage Testing Institute gave it Gold and 91 points the same year. An earlier Beverage Testing Institute review, in 2022, scored it 94.
Sip it neat or over ice. It also works in a Rye Highball with soda and a twist of lemon, or in an Old Fashioned. Pair it with smoked meats, sharp cheeses or dark chocolate. If you want a mellow, well-aged whisky that won't break the bank, start here.
