Crafted in El Arenal, in the heart of the Lowlands (El Valle) of Jalisco, Mexico, Montagave Exploración Vol. 3 Añejo is an ultra-premium, additive-free artisanal tequila produced at the renowned Tequila Cascahuín distillery (NOM 1123) by master distiller Salvador "Chava" Rosales. Montagave’s Exploración series is celebrated for combining traditional Mexican agave craft with world-class French winemaking wood programs. Made from 100% estate-grown Blue Weber agave (Agave tequilana), the mature piñas are slow-cooked in traditional stone masonry brick ovens (mampostería), crushed using a mechanical roller mill, and fermented in open stainless steel tanks using natural yeasts. Following double-distillation in small copper pot stills, the spirit undergoes a sophisticated aging program in select French oak casks that previously held fine French wine, including Port wood finishing. The result is a beautifully complex, elegant añejo that harmonizes cooked agave sweetness with dark berries, French oak vanilla, floral tannins, and soft baking spices.
Food Pairing: Duck breast with plum reduction, roasted pork tenderloin, aged Manchego or Gouda cheese, dark chocolate truffles, or berry tart.
Tasting Notes: Rich amber-rose in appearance with brilliant clarity, a silky full body, and slow, coating, viscous tears.
Nose: Elegant and complex, opening with roasted agave nectar, ripe blackberries, and dark cherries, supported by French oak vanilla, toasted almonds, dried rose petals, and subtle cinnamon spice.
Palate: Velvety, rich, and well-structured on the palate, featuring caramelized agave, plum jam, and sweet vanilla upfront before unfolding into soft oak tannins, dark cocoa, clove, candied orange peel, and subtle pepper warmth.
Finish: Long, warm, and refined with lingering notes of sweet agave, red fruit tannins, French oak, and a silky spice warmth.
Serve: Enjoy neat at room temperature in a Glencairn glass or Riedel Tequila glass to allow its complex wine-barrel finish and rich agave foundation to fully unfold.
