Lobos Joven is a tequila from Lobos 1707, made from 100% Blue Weber agave in Jalisco. The brand sums it up as young in spirit and old in soul. It begins as a blend of aged blanco with a measure of Lobos reposado. The blend rests for under two months in American white oak. It's then carbon filtered and finished in Pedro Ximénez sherry casks using a solera system.
In the glass it has a pale, straw-like glow. The nose is bright with fresh herbs and light floral notes. Yellow and orange bell pepper, marcona almond, white pepper and fresh melon come through on the palate too. Light balsamic tones and the taste of fresh-cut agave sit underneath. The finish is smooth and bright.
Judges keep noticing this bottle. It won Gold and 90 points at the 2024 San Francisco World Spirits Competition. It also took a Gold Medal and Consumers' Choice at the SIP Awards, plus a SIP Innovation Award in 2022. Chilled Magazine scored it 100 out of 100.
Sip it neat or over one big cube to catch the sherry touch. It also makes a lovely Margarita, Paloma or Mexican Mule. Serve it with ceviche, citrus dishes, grilled vegetables or mild cheese.
