Knob Creek Smoked Maple Bourbon gives classic Kentucky bourbon a sweet, smoky side. The idea came from Booker Noe, the brand's founder. He loved smoking meats and making his own maple syrup. Knob Creek turned those two hobbies into its first flavored whiskey, launched in 2013.
It starts as Knob Creek straight bourbon. Natural smoked maple flavor is then blended in. The whiskey is bottled at 90 proof, so it keeps real backbone. In the glass, it shows a copper to medium amber color. That puts it in a class of its own among flavored bourbons.
Lift the glass and you smell smoked hickory and maple wood. A hint of earthy grain sits underneath. The first sip is full-bodied, with inviting maple up front. That sweetness lifts into gentle smoke. Rich vanilla and caramel fill in the middle. The finish is smoky, smooth and just slightly sweet.
Knob Creek's Smoked Maple is easy to enjoy many ways. Sip it neat after dinner or pour it over a big ice cube. It also makes a great base for creative cocktails. The brand's own Smoked Maple Old Fashioned is a fine place to start. At the table, try it with BBQ ribs, smoked meats or pecan pie.
You will like this bottle if you enjoy a touch of sweetness in your spirits. It still tastes like proper bourbon, so seasoned fans can have fun with it. Newer whiskey drinkers often find it a friendly first step. It is a cozy pour for cold nights by the fire.
