Moscatel casks often fly under the radar compared to their heavy Oloroso or PX cousins. Sourced from the sweet Muscat grape varieties, these barrels offer a floral elegance that is notoriously difficult to capture. Kavalan takes these rare vessels and subjects them to the intense, subtropical heat of Yilan County. The result is nothing short of spectacular. This whisky absorbs wood character at an accelerated rate, creating a deep ruby spirit that looks and tastes significantly older than its actual years. It is luscious and thick. The liquid behaves more like a concentrated nectar than a standard spirit. While other sherries lean into heavy raisin notes, the Moscatel cask creates a unique profile reminiscent of fruit jams spread over savory brownies. It is a pivotal bottle for understanding the full range of sherry maturation.
