The Gurkha Cellar Reserve Especial 18-Year Hedonism puts the emphasis where this line is most interesting: on mature Dominican tobacco. A Corojo wrapper surrounds a Dominican Olor binder and 18-year-aged Dominican filler, creating a cigar with plenty of richness but a noticeably more settled character than younger, more aggressive tobacco might deliver.
At 6" x 58, the Hedonism gives that aged filler considerably more room to work than the smaller Koi and Solara. The broad ring gauge brings the interior tobacco forward, while the Corojo wrapper supplies enough aroma and spice to provide definition. The profile stays relatively restrained, with earth, seasoned wood and cocoa accompanied by a measured spice and natural sweetness. Medium-to-full in character, the Hedonism is less about dramatic transitions than the texture and maturity of the tobacco itself.
The Hedonism makes the most sense for the smoker who wants to settle in and spend some time with the Cellar Reserve Especial blend. Its larger format puts the aged Dominican leaf at center stage and rewards a slow smoking pace. If mature tobacco is the reason you're reaching for Cellar Reserve, the 6 x 58 Hedonism gives it plenty of room to speak. Put a few in the humidor and give this one the time it deserves.
