My Best Friend’s Girl is the award-winning flagship Kölsch style ale from Calgary’s The Establishment Brewing Company. A consistent favorite in the Alberta craft scene, it has earned multiple accolades, including gold medals at the Canadian Brewing Awards. This beer is a love letter to the traditional ales of Cologne, Germany, designed to be the ultimate "crispy boy", a beer that is refined, unpretentious, and technically flawless.
Beer Description
This Kölsch-style ale pours a brilliant, crystal-clear pale gold with a delicate, frothy white head and fine, persistent carbonation.
Aroma: It features a subtle and elegant nose. Expect light notes of honey and crackery malt, perfectly balanced by the classic floral and herbal aromatics of noble hops. A faint fruity ester, characteristic of the style, adds a hint of pear or white grape.
Palate: The flavor is clean and light-bodied. It leads with a delicate bready sweetness that quickly transitions into a crisp, snappy finish. The bitterness is present but restrained, serving only to refresh the palate for the next sip.
Profile: It has an ABV of 4.8% and a low bitterness (IBU), making it one of the most sessionable and versatile beers in their lineup.
Technical Notes: True to the Kölsch tradition, it is fermented with a specific ale yeast at cooler temperatures and then cold-conditioned (lagered) to achieve its signature clarity and clean profile. It is brewed with 100% German malt and noble hops to maintain stylistic authenticity.
