Elijah Craig Barrel Proof Batch C924 Kentucky Straight Whiskey is a robust, uncut, full-flavored barrel-proof bourbon from Heaven Hill’s flagship “Barrel Proof” series. Bottled straight from the cask, Batch C924 delivers rich oak, candied spice, caramel depth, and concentrated fruit notes with enough proof to satisfy seasoned bourbon drinkers while still showing impressive balance and complexity. It’s a quintessential expression of the intense, layered bourbon style that collectors and enthusiasts seek.
Origins & Craftsmanship
This expression emerges from Heaven Hill Distillery in Bardstown, Kentucky, one of the largest independent, family-owned bourbon producers in the United States. The Barrel Proof line was introduced in 2013 and is released three times annually, each batch labeled with a unique code (like C924) corresponding to its release timing and year. These whiskies are drawn straight from charred new American oak barrels without water dilution or chill filtration, capturing maximum barrel influence and aromatics.
C924 carries an 11-year age statement, meaning the youngest whiskey in the blend has matured in oak for at least that long—allowing significant interaction between spirit and wood to develop both sweetness and structure. The mash bill is classic Heaven Hill: 78% corn, 12% malted barley, and 10% rye, yielding baseline richness with spicy emphasis from barrel aging.
Critics Reviews
There are no widely published numeric scores from major critics (e.g., Whisky Advocate) specifically for Batch C924 as a single entry. However, the Barrel Proof series as a whole is widely lauded among whiskey experts and collectors for its consistency, depth, and expressive character, and it’s often discussed enthusiastically by independent reviewers and tasting communities. Reviews of C924 itself highlight it as a classic Barrel Proof profile with bold spice and layered flavor impact.
Tasting Profile
Nose: Deep amber color opens with classic bourbon aromas of caramel, toasted oak, and brown sugar, accompanied by apple and orange fruit highlights and warm baking spices—cinnamon, nutmeg, and clove.
Palate: Rich and full-bodied, with vanilla and butterscotch leading, followed by dark fruit undertones and charred oak presence. Peppery rye spice and complex layers of orange peel, caramel chew, and subtle tobacco underline the mid-palate richness.
Finish: Bold and lingering, with baking spices, dark oak, and a warm heat that tapers into leather and faint dried fruit, showcasing the distilled-to-proof intensity and barrel integration.
