Don Abraham Organic Añejo is a certified organic tequila from a single estate in the Amatitán Valley of Jalisco. The family calls it "Organico." Master growers pick each plant by hand, and the fields are farmed without chemicals, pesticides or herbicides. You can taste the care that goes into this premium spirit.
Tequila Las Américas (NOM 1480) makes it the old way. The agave hearts slow-cook in stone and brick ovens to draw out their natural sugars. The juice is then distilled twice in stainless steel pot stills with copper coils. Strict quality checks guide each step.
Next comes the wait. The tequila rests at least 14 months, and sometimes up to 18, in oak. The barrels are often American white oak or used bourbon casks. It is bottled at 40% ABV, or 80 proof, with a medium amber color and golden glints.
The nose shows cooked agave, caramel and vanilla over oak, with cinnamon and a light earthy smoke. On the palate you get more agave and caramel, plus warm cinnamon and a little black pepper. The finish is warm and medium to long, with sweet caramel and spice.
It won a Gold Medal at the 2008 Agave Spirits Challenge. Sip it neat or on the rocks to enjoy one of the finest tequila styles. It also makes a smooth Old Fashioned. Pair it with dark chocolate, roasted nuts or a fine cigar.
