The Craigellachie 17 Year Old is a bold, distinctive Speyside single malt that challenges expectations—robust yet refined, showcasing exotic fruits and barrel-driven richness while retaining a muscular core. It’s ideal for the whisky enthusiast who wants character with depth.
Origins & Craftsmanship
This whisky hails from the Craigellachie Distillery in the Speyside region of Scotland. Founded in 1891, the distillery has long been known for its contribution to blends, but its official single malt range (including the 17-year-old) shines a spotlight on its distinctive spirit. The 17-year-old expression is matured primarily in a mixture of ex-bourbon and ex-sherry casks, with finishing in first-fill sherry and bourbon casks to amplify complexity. It is non-chill-filtered, contains no added colouring, and is bottled at 46% ABV to preserve its rich character.
Tasting Profile
Nose: Vanilla cream and warm caramel layered with exotic tropical fruits (think canned pineapple), subtle dried apricot and a hint of smoky liquorice.
Palate: Medium-to full-bodied, with notes of toffee, malt loaf, light brine, pineapple, and underlying oak spice. Some malt-driven cereal sweetness emerges alongside cocoa and nutmeg.
Finish: Long and warming, with lingering tropical sweetness, toasted oak, a touch of smoke and soft peppery spice—robust but balanced.
