Stockkultur is a Pinot Noir produced by Christian Tschida in Illmitz, in the Neusiedlersee area of Burgenland, Austria. The fruit comes from old Pinot Noir vines in the Thenau single vineyard on the Leithaberg, trained by the Stockkultur method, in which the vines are supported only by wooden stakes rather than a wire frame, forcing the roots deeper. The grapes are hand harvested, foot stomped, and spontaneously fermented in open tanks. The wine ages about 10 months in a 600 liter barrel before being bottled unfiltered with no added sulfur.
