This structured red wine originates from France, within the Côtes du Rhône Villages A.O.C. appellation in the Southern Rhône Valley. Produced by Château de La Gardine a historic estate in Châteauneuf-du-Pape owned by the Brunel family since 1945, renowned for its famous asymmetrical, hand-blown molded bottle (flacon La Gardine) this bottling represents an exceptionally high benchmark for village-tier Rhône expressions. Sourced from estate-managed vineyard parcels planted on limestone-clay terraces and quartzite river pebbles (galets roulés), the vines thrive under a Mediterranean microclimate. Generous summer sunshine is tempered by the cooling, drying influence of the Mistral wind, allowing traditional Rhône varieties to reach complete phenolic maturity while maintaining a vibrant natural acidity and aromatic detail.
Wine Description
The Château de La Gardine Côtes du Rhône Villages presents a deep garnet-ruby color in the glass with bright magenta reflections along the rim. Its sensory profile is exceptionally fresh, high-toned, and complex, delivering an energetic, precise, and rustic-elegant portrait of Southern Rhône terroir. The bouquet opens with a soaring display of crushed wild blackberries, ripe black cherries, and dark plums, seamlessly layered with complex underlays of fresh lavender, garrigue herbs, black pepper, cured meat, tapenade, and a subtle line of crushed stone minerality. On the palate, the wine is medium-to-full-bodied, sleek, and supple, showcasing a succulent core of dark fruits, blood orange zest, and sweet licorice. It is characterized by its outstanding inner energy and an incisive, mouthwatering backbone of natural acidity that lifts its mid-palate fruit density. The mouthfeel is broad, weightless, and velvety, framed by fine-grained, chalky tannins that glide into a long, dry, and mineral-driven finish accented by persistent notes of wild thyme, dark cocoa, and lingering spice.
