Introduction
CedarCreek Crafted In BC Pinot Noir 2024 is a unique release from the Okanagan Valley, British Columbia, Canada, born of necessity following a devastating January 2024 cold snap that destroyed over 90% of the local grape crop. Established in 1988, CedarCreek is one of British Columbia's original eight estate wineries and is currently owned by the von Mandl Family, who also oversee estates like Mission Hill. The winery operates under a winemaking philosophy that prioritizes a deep connection to the land and a commitment to sustainable, cool-climate viticulture.
Wine Description
This 100% Pinot Noir presents a deep ruby colour and a sensory profile characterized by its resilience and fruit concentration. The nose offers fresh red fruit aromas of cherries and red currants that transition into delicate notes of potpourri and violets. On the palate, the wine is medium-bodied and silky, displaying vibrant flavours of black plum and wild cassis alongside savoury herbs and an earthy cedar underside. The finish is clean and lingering, marked by subtle hints of spice and cracked pepper. Due to the 2024 crop loss, this specific 'Crafted In BC' bottling was produced using premium fruit secured from renowned cool-climate vineyards in Oregon's Willamette Valley region. The wine has an ABV of 13.5% and, while the estate vineyards are certified organic, this out-of-province fruit sourcing means the wine is not labeled as organic.
