Castello Di Monsanto Chianti Classico 2021 is a vibrant, elegant, and beautifully structured expression of Sangiovese that serves as an exceptional introduction to one of Tuscany's most revered estates. Sourced primarily from the estate's younger vineyards nestled on classic galestro schist and limestone soils, it presents a bright ruby-red color in the glass. The nose opens with a charming, fresh bouquet of wild strawberries, red cherries, and pomegranate seeds, elegantly overlaid with notes of crushed violets, dried oregano, and a touch of sandalwood. On the palate, this medium-bodied red shows superb focus and balance, wrapping its succulent core of bright red fruit flavors in a crisp vein of refreshing acidity and fine, lightly chewy tannins. Vinified in stainless steel and aged for 12 months in large Slavonian oak barrels, it culminates in a clean, persistent, and savory mineral finish accented by a trace of citrus peel.
Food Pairing: Pairs wonderfully with grilled pork chops, classic lasagna alla Bolognese, roasted duck breast, or aged pecorino cheese.
93 Points - James Suckling
Notes of spiced cherries and red plums with walnuts, spicy herbs, dark licorice and moist bark. Juicy and racy on the palate with a medium body and polished tannins. Fresh and crunchy. Sleek and textured with a flavorful, red-fruited finish. Very attractive. Drink or hold.
93 Points - Wine Spectator
A supple, succulent red marked by intense aromas and flavors of blackberry, black cherry, violet, earth and graphite. Reveals tannins that leave a powdery feel on the finish, along with vibrant acidity. Overall, this is balanced and superlong. Sangiovese, Canaiolo and Colorino. Drink now through 2033. 6,000 cases made, 300 cases imported.
90 Points - Wine Enthusiast
The nose opens with vanilla and toasted coconut, then expands into mixed berries and potting soil, before the palate soars in full of berries, not without balance from continued earthiness, graphite and bitter cocoa.
