Calumet Farm “Citation” Single Rack Black 16 Year Old Bourbon is an opulent Kentucky classic — a deep, mature whiskey that balances power and polish. Its sixteen years in oak deliver a commanding mix of dark caramel, tobacco, leather, and toasted spice, all wrapped in the refined structure expected from one of bourbon’s most storied names. A limited, luxury expression that honors both thoroughbred racing heritage and patient barrel aging.
Origins & Craftsmanship
Named after the legendary 1948 Triple Crown winner Citation, this bourbon is crafted by Calumet Farm Bourbon in Bardstown, Kentucky, a brand synonymous with Kentucky excellence. Each bottle of the Single Rack Black 16 Year Old is drawn from just 19 barrels resting on a single, optimal rickhouse rack — chosen for ideal airflow and maturation balance.
Distilled from a traditional corn-heavy mash bill, this whiskey is aged for 16 years in #4 alligator-char American white oak barrels, producing exceptional depth and integration. Bottled at 97 proof (48.5% ABV) without chill filtration, the “Citation” release captures the pinnacle of Calumet Farm’s aging program: robust oak character, velvety texture, and a finish that lasts for miles.
Tasting Profile
Nose: Rich brown sugar, saddle leather, and pipe tobacco with traces of vanilla and charred oak.
Palate: Layers of caramelized sugar, dark fruit, toasted hazelnut, and baking spice unfold with velvety density.
Finish: Exceptionally long and dry, with lingering oak, leather, and a sweet tobacco resonance.
Food Pairings
A contemplative sipper, best enjoyed neat or with a splash of water. Pairs beautifully with grilled ribeye, pecan pie, or aged gouda — and makes an extraordinary companion to a fine cigar.
