The Caldwell Long Live the King Mad MoFo Maduro Belicoso brings some serious tobacco to a shape that knows how to concentrate it. A dark, oily Mexican San Andrés Maduro wrapper surrounds an Indonesian binder and a Dominican, Nicaraguan and American filler blend featuring Corojo ’98 and Pennsylvania Double Ligero. It's one of Caldwell's more muscular recipes, combining the earthy richness of San Andrés with enough powerful filler tobacco to give Mad MoFo its appropriately unruly personality.
At 5½" x 52, the Belicoso is particularly well suited to the blend. The tapered head concentrates the smoke on the palate, sharpening the wrapper's dark cocoa, earth and pepper while allowing roasted coffee, leather and deeper tobacco sweetness to build underneath. There's plenty of strength here, but the attraction is the density of flavor—the Belicoso delivers Mad MoFo's darker character in a more focused package than the larger-ring Magnum.
If you enjoy full-bodied San Andrés cigars, the Belicoso is one of the Mad MoFo sizes I'd put in your hand first. The shape gives this powerful blend focus without taming it, delivering plenty of richness, spice and old-fashioned tobacco muscle. Pick up several—this is a Caldwell made for the end of the day, when you're ready for a cigar with something substantial to say.
