Café La Llave Dark Roast Ground Espresso is a bold, Cuban-style dark roast in a 16 oz vacuum-sealed brick, crafted for espresso machines, moka pots, and drip brewers.
Rooted in generations of Cuban coffee tradition and roasted in Los Angeles, this ground espresso blend delivers a dense aroma and strong flavor that stands up to milk and sweeteners while also rewarding black-drink purists. Each 16 oz brick is vacuum-sealed to preserve freshness and roasted in a zero-waste facility, offering both performance and a commitment to more responsible production. The grind is tuned for versatility, making it suitable for moka pots, automatic drip machines, and many espresso machines that accept pre-ground coffee.
What flavor profile should I expect from this Café La Llave dark roast?
You’ll find an assertive, full-bodied cup with deep roasted notes and a lingering, smooth finish. The profile emphasizes traditional Cuban espresso characteristics: bold intensity, roasted sweetness, and a tactile mouthfeel that carries through milk-based drinks.
- Full-bodied, dark-roast character with roasted caramel and cocoa hints.
- Pronounced aroma that fills the kitchen when the brick is opened.
- Stands up to milk and sugar—works well in lattes and cappuccinos.
- Also enjoyable black for concentrated flavor appreciation.
How should I brew Café La Llave to get the best results?
This ground espresso is flexible across common home brewers. Use a moka pot for a concentrated, authentic Cuban-style cafecito; a drip machine for a strong daily pot; or an espresso machine designed for pre-ground coffee for quick shots and milk drinks.
- Moka pot: pack firmly for a rich, syrupy extraction and full aroma.
- Drip brewer: use a slightly higher coffee-to-water ratio for bolder flavor.
- Espresso machine (pre-ground): dose consistently to encourage crema and balanced extraction.
- Combine with hot milk or foam to create lattes or cortados that hold flavor.
How does the packaging preserve freshness and quality?
Each 16 oz brick is vacuum-sealed to limit exposure to air and moisture, helping retain aroma and flavor until you open it. The airtight brick design also makes storage easier and reduces the speed at which volatile oils dissipate.
- Vacuum-sealed 16 oz bricks lock in volatile aromatics.
- Brick shape fits pantry shelves and minimizes headspace exposure.
- Recommended to store in a cool, dry place after opening to maintain flavor.

- Roasted in a zero-waste Los Angeles facility to lower footprint.
- Longstanding relationships with growers help promote responsible sourcing.
