Bruichladdich Octomore 16.1 is a super heavily peated single malt Scotch whisky produced at the Bruichladdich Distillery on the island of Islay, Scotland. As the 'reference point' for the 16th edition of this experimental series, it represents the backbone of the collection, designed to showcase the pure character of the heavily peated spirit. The distillery, currently owned by Rémy Cointreau, follows a philosophy of 'The Impossible Equation', focusing on the complex interplay between terroir, extreme phenol levels, and artisanal distillation entirely on Islay.
Whisky Description
This expression features a bright 'spun gold' or honey hue, maintained without chill filtration or added colouring. The nose is an intriguing blend of sea spray, orchard fruits, and dried heather, layered over Octomore’s signature delicate yet immediate peat smoke. On the palate, it reveals a robust yet nuanced profile of salted caramel, honeyed melon, and apricot, which intermingle with sweet malt sugars and earthy minerality. The body is rich and textured at 59.3% ABV, featuring a malted barley phenol level of 101.4 PPM. It concludes with a long, satisfying finish of black pepper, toffee, and lingering campfire smoke.
