Bache-Gabrielsen BGW Chestnut Cask French Single Malt Whisky is an innovative French single malt crafted from French barley and matured through an unusual combination of Cognac and chestnut casks. Initially aged in oak casks previously used for Cognac, the whisky is subsequently refined in new chestnut casks and older chestnut casks that formerly held Cognac. Bottled at 43% ABV, this distinctive maturation creates a fresh yet complex profile filled with roasted nuts, chestnut, dried fruit, leather, yellow fruit, and warming spice.
Food Pairing: Roasted chestnuts, roast pork, duck breast, aged Comté, cashew nuts, dried fruit, dark chocolate, and spiced fruit tart.
Tasting Notes: Fresh, rich, and complex with roasted chestnuts, nuts, dried fruit, yellow fruit, subtle leather, and warming spice.
Nose: Complex aromas of dried fruit, nuts, fresh chestnuts, leather, and mature woody notes.
Palate: Fresh, rich, and subtle with roasted chestnut, cashew, nutty sweetness, and layered wood character.
Finish: Long and fresh with yellow fruit, kumquat, clove, cumin, and lingering chestnut character.
The tasting profile above closely follows the producer's exact Chestnut Cask notes rather than being borrowed from another BGW expression.
