Arran Sherry Cask The Bodega is a cask-strength single malt from the Isle of Arran, off Scotland's west coast. It is matured only in sherry casks sourced from Jerez, Spain. Arran uses first-fill sherry hogsheads, so the wood still holds plenty of rich wine character. It is bottled at 55.8%, without chill filtration or added color.
The nose opens with chocolate-covered raisins and juicy mandarin, plus a light hint of spice. Some tasters also find toffee there. On the palate it feels chewy and warm, with ripe fig and sweet cherry. The finish is long and powerful. Pink pepper, hazelnut and toasted oak carry on well after the glass is empty.
What makes it fun is the balance. Arran's bright, fruity house style still shines through all that sherry. The high strength gives each flavor real grip, yet the fruit never gets lost.
Judges have loved this bottling. It won Double Gold with 97 points at the 2025 San Francisco World Spirits Competition. It was also a Category Winner at the 2025 World Whiskies Awards. The Global Scotch Whisky Masters gave it a Master medal that year. In 2023 it earned Silver and 93 points at the International Wine & Spirits Competition.
Pour it neat first and give it a few minutes to breathe. Then add water a drop or two at a time and watch the fruit and spice open up. A slice of fruitcake, some blue cheese or a square of dark chocolate makes a fine partner. If you love rich, sherried malts with plenty of strength, this one belongs on your shelf.
