This wine hails from New Zealand, specifically Central Otago—a premier subregion known globally for its Pinot Noir. Akarua is an esteemed estate founded in 1996, nestled in Bannockburn. It is owned by the Edmond de Rothschild Heritage group, a name synonymous with excellence in winemaking. The vineyard's elevated, schist-rich soils and sustainable practices play a crucial role in shaping its elegant, expressive wines.
Wine Description
The 2023 Rua Pinot Noir pours a vibrant ruby red with a youthful edge. The nose is fragrant and complex, offering aromas of red cherry, raspberry, and wild strawberry, layered with hints of thyme, dried rose petals, and subtle baking spice. On the palate, it is supple and juicy with a silky texture and finely grained tannins. Flavours of red berry fruit dominate, supported by notes of savoury herbs and a touch of oak-derived vanilla. The wine is medium-bodied with refreshing acidity and a lingering, mineral-driven finish. Crafted entirely from Pinot Noir, it is best enjoyed from now through 2028, though short-term cellaring will enhance its finesse.
