Worldwide Botanicals French Chicory Root is a roasted, caffeine-free coffee substitute and blendable ingredient that delivers rich, toasty flavor plus prebiotic inulin.
Roasted French chicory root has been a popular coffee alternative in Europe for generations. This 1-pound bag from Worldwide Botanicals is crafted from roots grown in northern France, oven-roasted, and ground to an all-purpose texture that works in drip machines, French press, espresso blends, or as a steeped infusion. It’s gluten-free, acid-free, kosher, and contains inulin, a soluble fiber that supports a balanced gut microbiome when incorporated into daily routines.
How do I brew chicory root to taste like coffee?
You can brew chicory root using the same equipment and methods you’d use for coffee. Use the same grind and brewing ratio for drip or French press, or steep a tablespoon or two per cup, then strain for a smooth, robust cup with roasted, nutty notes.
- Use 1–2 tablespoons per 6–8 ounces of water for a standard cup.
- Brew 4–6 minutes in a French press for fuller body.
- Blend 25–50% chicory with coffee beans to reduce acidity and caffeine.
- Steep like tea and strain if you prefer a gentler, less concentrated infusion.
What are the functional benefits of drinking roasted chicory root?
Chicory root provides inulin, a natural prebiotic fiber that helps nourish beneficial gut bacteria. It’s naturally caffeine-free and acid-free, making it an option for people looking to reduce stimulants or stomach irritation associated with coffee.
- Prebiotic inulin supports probiotic growth and gut flora diversity.
- No caffeine—suitable for evenings or caffeine-sensitive individuals.
- Lower acidity than coffee, gentler on sensitive stomachs.
- Long shelf stability—doesn’t become rancid like roasted coffee oils.
How should I use, store, and combine this chicory root?
The product is versatile: use it straight as a brewed beverage, mix it with coffee to mellow acidity and reduce caffeine, or add it to recipes for depth of flavor. Keep the bag sealed and stored in a cool, dry place to preserve freshness for up to three years.
- Store in a sealed container away from heat and moisture.
- Combine with milk, non-dairy creamer, or sweeteners to taste.
- Use in baking or savory rubs to add roasted, caramelized notes.
- Imported bimonthly and sustainably harvested by French family farms.
