Westland Garryana 2022 Edition 7 Single Malt Whiskey is an innovative American single malt that showcases the unique terroir of the Pacific Northwest through the use of rare native Garry oak in its maturation process. Produced by Westland Distillery in Seattle, this limited annual release is part of an ongoing exploration of how indigenous American oak species can contribute distinctive character to whiskey, challenging the traditional reliance on European and Eastern American oak. Edition 7 features whiskey matured in a combination of new American oak, ex-bourbon, and specially crafted virgin Garry oak casks, with the latter imparting unique flavor compounds found nowhere else in the whiskey world. This experimental approach reflects Westland's commitment to creating distinctly American single malt that honors local ingredients and pushes the boundaries of what whiskey can be, making each Garryana edition a highly anticipated release among collectors and enthusiasts who value innovation and regional expression.
On the nose, Garryana Edition 7 reveals an intriguing bouquet of vanilla, caramel, and toasted grain with distinctive notes of chocolate, espresso, dried fruits, and subtle floral elements that come from the native Garry oak influence. The palate delivers a rich, complex experience with layers of dark chocolate, roasted nuts, brown sugar, and baking spices complemented by unique savory and herbal notes that set it apart from traditional oak-aged whiskies. The finish is long and sophisticated with lingering chocolate, oak tannins, gentle smoke, and evolving complexity that invites multiple sips to fully appreciate. The Garry oak contributes a distinctive character that's both familiar and entirely new, adding depth and intrigue that whiskey geeks will endlessly discuss and dissect. Best enjoyed neat or with a splash of water to unlock the full range of flavors this experimental maturation brings. Whether you're a collector seeking limited annual releases, an American whiskey enthusiast exploring regional expressions, or simply curious about how native ingredients can transform single malt, Westland Garryana 2022 Edition 7 offers a distinctive, terroir-driven drinking experience that showcases the exciting future of Pacific Northwest whiskey-making.
