Three Chord Tennessee Straight Whiskey is a light, flavorful small-batch whiskey with a musical soul. It is distilled and aged for at least 36 months. The mash bill is 80% corn, 10% rye and 10% malted barley. It is bottled at 85 proof, or 42.5% ABV.
Like other Tennessee whiskeys, it goes through the Lincoln County Process. The spirit is filtered through sugar maple charcoal. This strips away harsh edges and leaves a clean, smooth whiskey. Three Chord calls the result its "Perfectly Tuned Taste."
In the glass it shows a rich amber, close to patinated copper. The nose offers dark sugar, vanilla bean and light smoke. A warm hint of bananas foster comes through too. Take a sip and the body feels medium plus and slightly viscous. Robust oak and caramel lead, then light smoke and fire-cooked corn cakes. Baked red apple adds a soft sweetness. The finish is medium in length, lightly spiced, clean and very smooth.
The awards shelf keeps growing. It earned a perfect 100 points and a Century Award at the 2023 Proof Awards. It won Gold at both the 2022 Ascot Awards and the 2022 John Barleycorn Awards. San Francisco World Spirits Competition judges gave it Silver in 2022 and Bronze in 2019.
Music sits at the heart of the brand. Musician and producer Neil Giraldo founded Three Chord. The name nods to the simple three-chord songs behind so much rock and roll. He sees the same craft in a great song and a great whiskey.
Sip it neat, on the rocks, or stirred into an Old Fashioned. You can also try it in a crafted cocktail. Pour it with BBQ ribs, smoked meats or a square of dark chocolate. It is an easy pick whether you are new to spirits or have tried them all.
