Distilled at the iconic Buffalo Trace Distillery, Thomas H. Handy's Sazerac Uncut & Unfiltered 2024 Release is intentionally younger, typically around six years old, which allows it to showcase rye’s raw vibrancy rather than the deep oak maturity of longer-aged expressions.
On the nose, look for sweet oak, menthol, cinnamon and clove, with dusty cocoa and a faint hint of citrus. The taste is where it gets explosive. Bold rye spice leads, with toffee, cinnamon, and toasted oak at the core. Peppery notes add complexity, while hints of dark chocolate soften the edges. The finish is long and warming, dominated by pepper, cinnamon, and toasted oak. The spice lingers with pleasant dryness, leaving a lasting impression of bold rye character.
Like every Thomas H. Handy, the 2024 edition is part of Buffalo Trace’s annual Antique Collection, aged about six years and three months and bottled straight from the barrel, making it one of the most talked-about American Whiskey releases of the year.
This bottle stands out because it balances raw rye intensity with surprising drinkability at 127.2 proof. It is not about oak-driven maturity but about showcasing rye’s fiery character in its purest form. This makes it one of the most exciting annual releases for those who crave bold, unfiltered whiskey experiences.
