Some whiskeys politely ask for your attention; others kick the door down. The Reveries achieved the latter with their 'Crux' release. Finding an eight-year Kentucky single barrel that balances raw power with profound nuance is no small feat. Clocking in at a formidable 124.2 proof, this bourbon doesn't bother with subtlety. It drops an absolute payload of dark fruit and mature leather directly onto the palate. This whiskey demands your respect. You won’t find yourself searching for hidden tasting notes here, because the flavors are loud, distinct, and aggressively delicious.
Spending nearly a decade inside deeply charred American white oak transforms a distillate entirely. Brutal seasonal shifts across Kentucky force the liquid deep into the staves, pulling out a ferocious amount of barrel character. A substantial rye presence in the mash bill provides the friction needed to offset the dominant corn sweetness. Prepare yourself for serious viscosity. The whiskey paints the glass with thick, stubborn tears that telegraph its incredibly oily mouthfeel.
