Peat smoke courses through the veins of Scotland's oldest working distillery. For generations, the fiery kilns of the early nineteenth century defined their fiercely independent spirit profile. This 2023 release changes everything. By maturing their robust distillate in a meticulously curated array of first-fill and second-fill European and American oak casks, the blenders have tamed an absolute beast into an elegant, smoldering masterpiece.
Highland peat behaves fundamentally differently than its medicinal island counterparts. Instead of overwhelming the palate with acrid phenols, the intricate oak regimen sculpts a fascinating interplay where earthy smoke surrenders to a velvety smooth cascade of salted caramel. The whisky boasts a formidable proof. It commands your absolute attention. Those diverse casks impart profound depth, allowing the underlying malted barley to shine brilliantly through the dense, atmospheric fog of the highland bogs.
- Aged 10 years in first and second-fill oak
- 2023 limited release at 48.4% ABV
