The Sample Room Collection
The Glenlivet relaunched their 25 Year Old in 2022 as part of The Sample Room Collection, alongside the 21 Year Old. The earlier 25 was finished only in Oloroso sherry butts; the new recipe moved to Pedro Ximénez sherry and Cognac casks for a sweeter profile.
The whisky
After at least 25 years in traditional casks, the whisky is selectively finished in first-fill Pedro Ximénez sherry casks and Tronçais oak Cognac casks. The result is amber in colour, with chocolate, jammy fruit and honey, lifted by citrus and spice.
How to enjoy it
Take it neat in a tulip glass and give it time to open. The Glenlivet suggest it neat or on the rocks, and pair it with creamy Camembert and other artisanal cheeses.

The earlier 25 Year Old was finished in Oloroso sherry butts. The Sample Room Collection 25 Year Old is finished in first-fill Pedro Ximénez sherry and Tronçais oak Cognac casks, giving a sweeter style.
How does it compare with the 21 Year Old?
The 21 has a triple finish in Oloroso, port and Cognac casks and leans towards pear and peach. The 25 is richer and sweeter, with chocolate, plum jam, fig and blood orange from its PX and Cognac finish.
