A first for The Balvenie
Released in 2022 in the Cask Finishes range, French Oak 16 was the first time The Balvenie used casks that had held Pineau des Charentes, an aperitif from the Cognac region made by blending grape juice or must with young cognac.
The whisky
After 16 years in American oak, the whisky is finished in the French oak Pineau casks. The Balvenie describes light floral notes of lotus and geranium on the nose, with tangy lemon rind, grapefruit, glazed fruit and root ginger on the palate.
How to enjoy it
Taste neat first, then add a few drops of water given the 47.6% ABV. It suits lighter food such as fruit tarts, pastries or a mild Comté.
