Stumptown Founder's Blend is a bright, full-bodied whole-bean light roast that blends Central and South American coffees for a consistent, chocolate-forward cup.
Roasted in Portland by Stumptown Coffee Roasters, the Founder's Blend pairs organic Arabica beans from Guatemala, Nicaragua, Peru, Colombia, and Mexico to deliver a balanced, approachable coffee you can drink all day. The blend is curated year-round by rotating peak-condition lots so the profile stays lively and familiar: think vanilla sweetness, cocoa powder depth, and a juicy, clean finish. Stumptown’s Direct Trade relationships and B Corp values inform sourcing and roasting decisions, emphasizing quality, sustainability, and long-term partnerships with growers.
What flavor profile should I expect from Founder's Blend?
Founder's Blend leans into bright, clean sweetness with a cocoa-forward backbone. Roast level and bean origins create a cup that is both full in body and easy to drink, revealing notes of vanilla and powdered chocolate with a lively, balanced acidity.
- Primary tasting notes: vanilla, cocoa powder, mild citrus brightness
- Body: medium to full — suitable for both milk and black preparations
- Acidity: bright but balanced, adding juiciness rather than sharpness
- Bean makeup: 100% Arabica from Central and South America
How should I brew this whole-bean coffee to get the best cup?
Founder's Blend works across brewing methods; adjust grind size and dose to match your equipment. For clarity, use pour-over with a medium-fine grind; for texture and sweetness, try espresso or a fine drip; for smooth, low-acidity results, cold brew coarse-ground beans.
- Pour-over: 1:16 ratio, medium grind, yields bright clarity
- Espresso: fine grind for concentrated chocolate-forward shots
- French press/cold brew: coarse grind for fuller body and gentler acidity
- Tip: water quality and fresh grind significantly improve flavor
What makes Stumptown’s sourcing and roasting different?
Stumptown emphasizes Direct Trade partnerships that pay premium prices tied to quality and foster long-term relationships with producers. Their roasting approach focuses on highlighting origin characteristics while maintaining a consistent house profile through careful blending and seasonal lot rotation.
- Direct Trade: higher prices linked to quality and long-term collaboration
- Seasonal rotation: peak-condition lots keep the blend stable and lively
- Sustainability: B Corp status reflects environmental and social commitments
- Roasting style: light roast that preserves acidity and origin sweetness
