Smooth Ambler Contradiction Rye is a blend of four rye whiskeys put together by the West Virginia distillery, bottled at 105 proof (52.5% ABV). The mashbills vary a lot: a 95% rye from Indiana, Smooth Ambler's own 88% rye, and two Tennessee ryes at 70% and 51% rye. Browse the Smooth Ambler range for more.
The producer points to tropical fruit and cream soda, then brown baking spices and fresh garden herbs. One reviewer also found toasted coconut and vanilla, with a creamy, rounded texture and a finish that lingers.
Try it with a little water, or let it anchor a Manhattan where its spice can stand up to vermouth. It is a strong choice for rye whiskey fans who enjoy higher-proof pours with lots of character.
