The Singleton of Glen Ord distillery, founded in 1838, is located on the edge of the Black Isle in the Highlands region of Scotland. It is one of the oldest distilleries in Scotland and is the only remaining single malt Scotch whisky distillery on the Black Isle. While the majority of its output has traditionally gone to blends like Johnnie Walker and Dewar's, the distillery has released its own single malts, which have received multiple international awards.
This 17-year-old single malt is part of the Diageo Special Releases 2025 collection and is bottled at 55.5% alcohol by volume (ABV). The whisky was finished in ex-mezcal and second-fill sherry casks, an unconventional combination that gives it new flavour depths.
The nose has aromas of baked apples, pear, and peach, along with subtle hints of honey and vanilla. As it breathes, notes of cinnamon, nutmeg, and mild oak emerge. The tasting notes from the producer highlight a rich, fruity taste combined with aromatic spice. It has a smooth, creamy texture and a flavour profile that includes dried fruit, baked apple, and chilli pepper notes.
Accolades
The Singleton of Glen Ord's single malt range has received several international awards, including three Gold awards for the 12-Year-Old, 15-Year-Old, and 18-Year-Old expressions.
The Glen Ord distillery was named Scotland's Leading Distillery Tour for 2024, an achievement that recognizes both the distillery and the local community.
Food Pairing
This whisky's rich and spicy profile would pair well with cured meat, smoked fish, or venison. Together, they create an unforgettable dining experience.
