The San Felice Il Grigio Chianti Classico Riserva 2010 is an elegant, structured, and beautifully evolved Old World red wine that stands as a historic benchmark from a legendary, highly celebrated Tuscan vintage. It pours a deeply saturated, thick, and luminous ruby-red colour in the glass. The nose unfurls with an aromatic, complex bouquet of blue flowers, woodland berries, underbrush, and saddle leather, seamlessly layered with dark tones of spice and pressed rose. On the palate, this full-bodied, pure Sangiovese is remarkably austere yet smooth, coating the mouth with succulent black cherry flavor, black pepper, cinnamon, mint, and sage. Matured meticulously for 24 months in a combination of large Slavonian oak casks and small French oak barriques, its bold structure balances a mouth-watering, tangy acidity against rich extract and soft, ripe tannins that carry into a long, persistent, and beautifully savory finish.
Food Pairing: Pairs beautifully with rich, rustic Tuscan or Mediterranean fare, including grilled steak, prime cuts of roast beef, slow-cooked meat-sauced first courses, roast pigeon, or wild boar ragù over thick pappardelle pasta.
93 Points - Wine Enthusiast
Hallmark Sangiovese aromas of blue flowers, woodland berries, underbrush, leather and spice take center stage in this stunning wine. The palate delivers succulent black cherry flavor accented by black pepper, cinnamon, mint and sage, with bracing yet ripe tannins. It's already delicious, but hold for additional complexity. Drink 2015–2025.
90 Points - James Suckling
A red with smoky, berry and mushroom character. Full body with firm, silky tannins and a flavorful finish. Drink or hold.
