Rhum J.M VSOP Rhum Vieux Agricole is a beautifully structured aged rum from Martinique that balances the vibrant freshness of sugarcane with the richness of oak maturation. Aged to VSOP standards and crafted under the strict AOC Martinique designation, it offers elegant layers of tropical fruit, vanilla, spice, and toasted wood. Smooth yet expressive, it is a classic example of how agricole rum evolves from fresh cane spirit into a refined sipping rum.
Origins & Craftsmanship
Rhum J.M is produced in Macouba, Martinique, at a historic distillery founded in 1845 on the northern slopes of Mount Pelée, where volcanic soils and tropical climate create exceptional conditions for sugarcane cultivation.
Unlike molasses-based rum, rhum agricole is distilled directly from freshly pressed sugarcane juice, which preserves the grassy, mineral, and aromatic qualities of the cane itself. The sugarcane used by Rhum J.M is grown on the estate and surrounding fields and is typically crushed shortly after harvest to capture its freshness before fermentation and distillation.
The fermented cane juice is distilled using a traditional Creole column still, a hallmark of Martinique’s agricole rum production.
For the VSOP expression, the rum is aged for a minimum of four years in oak barrels, meeting the AOC Martinique requirement for the VSOP designation. The maturation program combines re-charred bourbon barrels and new toasted American oak, allowing the rum to develop rich vanilla, spice, and caramelized notes while retaining the underlying sugarcane character.
The final rum is bottled at 43% ABV, offering a balanced profile that preserves the agricole freshness while showcasing the depth gained from oak aging.
