Quails' Gate Red Blend 'Queue' originates from Canada, specifically from the Okanagan Valley region and the West Kelowna subregion in British Columbia. The Stewart family has farmed this land since 1908, with Richard Stewart Sr. establishing a leading nursery before his son, Dick, planted the first grapevines in 1961. Formally founded in 1989 by Ben and Ruth Stewart, the winery is now a third-generation family business renowned for its mature vinifera plantings and commitment to sustainable viticulture. The winemaking philosophy emphasizes quality over quantity, focusing on handcrafted wines that express their unique sense of origin.
Wine Description
This premium red blend is characterized as a smooth, rich, and robust wine with a full body. The sensory profile features an open and expansive bouquet of blueberry, black cherry, plum, cocoa, and violet. On the palate, it delivers rich waves of dark fruit, black pepper, and 'inescapably supple' tannins. The long finish is described as building gradually with equal measures of strength and elegance.
Varietal Composition: A blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, and Syrah.
Stylistic Notes: The name 'Queue' is derived from the Latin word cõda, referring to a musical arrangement that punctuates the end of a symphony; the wine is crafted to capture the essence of the finest blocks on the West Kelowna estate.
ABV: 14.5%.
Organic Status: While not certified organic, the estate has been certified by Sustainable Winegrowing BC since 2022 and practices reduced-impact farming.
