Introduction:
Penfolds Koonunga Hill Shiraz Cabernet is a bold and expressive Australian blend, showcasing the fleshy fruit flavors of Shiraz and the fine-grained tannins of Cabernet Sauvignon. Crafted from premium South Australian vineyards, this wine reflects Penfolds’ winemaking style, offering a well-rounded structure with rich fruit, balanced oak, and spice complexity.
Tasting Notes
- Nose: A fragrant mix of baking spices, raspberry coulis, and dark cherry Danish, with hints of bergamot and Earl Grey tea for an elegant lift.
- Palate: Layers of hazelnut chocolate sweetness, balanced by savoury pancetta, sandalwood, and a touch of salted nori. Oak-derived spice, including Hungarian paprika and celery salt, adds complexity.
- Finish: Supple and plush, with a fine line of acidity and talcy tannins, leaving a long and balanced impression.
Pairings
Pairs perfectly with grilled lamb chops, barbecued ribs, and charred eggplant. Also an excellent match for aged cheddar, spiced beef dishes, and hearty pasta with tomato-based sauces.
