#3 Top 25 Cigars of 2017, Cigar Aficionado
95 points, Cigar Aficionado
The Oliva Serie V Belicoso is a standout figurado format within the famed Serie V portfolio, engineered to offer a concentrated, dynamic expression of full-bodied Nicaraguan power. Measuring 5 inches with a stocky 54 ring gauge and a sharply tapered cap, this Belicoso format allows aficionados to customise their cut to control airflow and draw resistance. The pointed head focuses smoke output directly onto the palate, amplifying the rich chocolate, espresso, and spicy nuances of the blend.
The structural and tobacco specifications of this exact vitola are engineered to deliver a slow, cool burn and voluminous smoke output across a 45-to-60-minute tasting session. Encased in an oily, sun-grown Ecuadorian Habano wrapper, the cigar uses a sturdy Nicaraguan binder to enclose an aged core of Nicaraguan Jalapa Valley Ligero long-fillers. Hand-rolled by master torcedores at the TABOLISA factory in Estelí, this 5″ x 54 Belicoso format guarantees high structural integrity, a straight burn line, and an evolving succession of bold, balanced flavours.
