Single Cloud is a field blend grown on a one-acre vineyard at 1,100 feet elevation in the Fountaingrove District of Sonoma County, within the Mayacamas Mountains. The soils are volcanic clay, a byproduct of an eruption at Mount St. Helena approximately 3.4 million years ago. The blend is dominated by Cabernet Franc (51%) with Petite Sirah (18.5%), Syrah (14.5%), and small amounts of Sauvignon Blanc, Semillon, Viognier, Grenache, and Mourvèdre making up the remainder.
Winemaker Darek Trowbridge farms organically and biodynamically without irrigation. Grapes are hand-picked and foot-stomped as whole clusters, then macerated on skins and stems for three days. Fermentation proceeds with native yeasts only. The wine ages nine months in neutral barrels sur lie, unfined and unfiltered, with 15 mg/L of added SO2 at bottling.
The result is a light, fruit-forward red built for chilling. Wild cherry drives the palate, while clove and star anise come through on the nose. At 11% ABV, it sits closer to a Beaujolais in weight than a typical California red blend, making it a practical choice for warm-weather drinking straight from the fridge.
