Old Forester Birthday Bourbon 2020 Release marks the 20th annual iteration of this highly sought-after vintage-dated expression, released each year on September 2nd to commemorate founder George Garvin Brown's birthday. Distilled from Old Forester's classic mashbill of 72% corn, 18% rye, and 10% malted barley, the 2020 batch was drawn from 95 barrels filled on June 5, 2010, and aged for 10 years. Bottled at 98 proof (49% ABV), this celebratory release presents a refined balance of rich brown sugar, dark stone fruit, cocoa powder, warm baking spices, and toasted oak.
Food Pairing: Pairs wonderfully with dark chocolate tarts, braised beef short ribs, pecan pie, aged Gouda, or a charcuterie board with cured meats and fig preserve.
Tasting Notes: A complex and sophisticated 10-year-old bourbon offering a rich balance of dark brown sugar, tropical accents, sweet oak, and toasted spice.
Nose: Inviting aromas of dark brown sugar, vanilla, white chocolate, magnolia blossoms, rich oak, and subtle candied citrus.
Palate: Smooth and layered with flavours of caramel, banana candy, coconut flakes, dried apricot, baking spices, and seasoned oak.
Finish: Medium to long with lingering notes of warm wood spice, dark cocoa, peppercorn, and dry leather.
Serve: Best enjoyed neat in a Glencairn glass or with a few drops of limestone water to open up its complex aromas.
