Oceano Azul Dragon d'Or XO is a French cognac that makes an impression before you even open it. The decanter carries a dragon design and a dragon-head stopper. It comes in a matching black gift box, so it is ready to hand over.
The blend comes from a family house with century-old cellars, now run by its fourth generation. Its eaux-de-vie rest for at least ten years in oak barrels before blending. The cognac is bottled at 40% ABV.
In the glass it shows a deep amber color. The nose opens with dried fruit and prune. Vanilla and warm spice such as cinnamon come in behind them. On the palate it feels smooth and velvety. Honey arrives first, followed by gentle, warming spice. The finish is long and keeps sweetness and warmth in balance.
Sip it neat from a tulip glass or a snifter. Give it a few minutes, since it opens up as it warms in your hand. Dark chocolate, roasted nuts and aged cheese all make easy partners. If you enjoy a cigar after dinner, it works there too.
Think of it for birthdays, holidays or a big thank-you. The dragon bottle looks striking on a home bar. The cognac inside suits anyone who likes slow, mellow sipping.
