Newton Mt Veeder Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon 2016 comes from a hillside site in the Mount Veeder AVA, where steep southern aspects sit between 800 and 1,400 feet and are cooled by both altitude and the nearby San Pablo Bay. That combination gives the site the longest growing season of any Napa Valley AVA, while well-drained sedimentary soils shape a vibrant, mineral-driven Cabernet Sauvignon with well-defined structure and a dark, inky, black fruit character.
The nose is distinctive, with hillside chaparral lifting alongside cassis, cedar, musk and slate. Powdery tannins frame black currant and black cherry on the palate, followed by a saline mineral quality and a hint of peppery eucalyptus. Overall the wine shows a balanced profile of ripe fruit, subtle oak and soft tannins that lead to a smooth, refined finish.
In a word, powerful. This 2016's phenolic structure gives it the longest aging potential of all the Newton wines. Bottled at 750 ml, 14.5% ABV.
