Nearest Green Tennessee Whiskey is a smooth, accessible Tennessee whiskey that honors its heritage while offering everyday drinkability. With gentle sweetness, approachable spice and a clean finish, it works well both neat and as a versatile cocktail base.
Origins & Craftsmanship
Named for Nathan “Nearest” Green—recognized as the first documented African-American master distiller—this whiskey embodies legacy and modern craft. Bottled at 84 proof (42% ABV), the whiskey is produced under the supervision of master blender Victoria Eady Butler, a descendant of Green and a multi-award-winning blender. It is crafted in Tennessee using the charcoal-filtering tradition known as the Lincoln County Process, and blended to invoke smoothness, clarity, and moderate complexity.
Tasting Profile
Nose: Soft and inviting aromas of butterscotch and vanilla, green apple slices, fresh stone fruit, and lemon zest; subtle hints of tobacco leaf and clean river-stone minerality introduce depth.
Palate: Light-to-medium bodied with honeyed corn sweetness, caramel, mild rye-spice pepper, and orchard fruit (pear/green apple). The oak influence is modest—supportive rather than dominant—and the overall texture is gentle.
Finish: Clean, modestly drying and smooth. There is a mild oak-tannic trace, soft peppery warmth, and a lingering echo of honey-and-corn bread. The finish invites another sip rather than demanding it.
