Mugen Spirit’s Oni expression slams Kentucky whiskey heritage into the untamed lore of ancient Japanese mythology. Co-founder Kojin Tashiro blindly selected this small batch to mimic primal chaos, blending multiple high-rye mashbills into a unified, barrel-proof juggernaut. It abandons standard barrel variance. Resting for seven long years in deeply charred oak, the whiskey hits an imposing 117 proof while stubbornly preserving its inherent balance.
Nailing this specific profile demands absolute precision. The blending process successfully corrals the mythological demon's fierce energy, letting heavy waves of dark sugar and vigorous baking spices collide directly on your palate. Viscous liquid coats the glass heavily. This rugged architectural depth proves that serious heat can actually elevate refined, idiosyncratic nuances rather than simply scorching them.
It bridges two cultures beautifully. The striking bottle features original label artwork by acclaimed Japanese illustrator Yuko Shimizu, with a visual ferocity that perfectly matches the high-octane liquid inside. This bourbon absolutely demands your undivided attention!
- Aged 7 years in deeply charred American oak
- Bottled at a robust 117 proof
- Blend of Green River and Bardstown Bourbon Co. mashbills

[[TASTING_NOTES]]
Nose: Dusty brown sugar and warm roasted pecans emerge immediately, anchored by an undercurrent of baked cinnamon apples and seasoned oak.
Palate: Highly viscous textures deliver heavy roasted peanuts and burnt vanilla bean, slowly yielding to intense red cinnamon spice and deeply caramelized brown sugar.
Finish: A lingering wave of warm baking spice dissolves into a distinctly bright orchard fruit note and toasted oak.
[[FOOD_PAIRING]]
Pair this robust bourbon with a heavily seared ribeye steak to amplify the savory char. The whiskey’s intense cinnamon notes cut right through the rich marbling. Serve a side of maple-glazed roasted carrots to draw out those hidden brown sugar undertones. For a sweeter path, dark chocolate ganache tarts elevate the deep oak character. The earthy cacao harmonizes effortlessly with the lingering orchard fruit finish.
